I want to create a table with a grid of RFID chips like this:
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O
O O O O O
O O O O O
I want to move a object with a RFID scanner over the table. Is this possible if the distance between the chips are about 3-5 cm? Or is there an interference because the gap is too small? Do you know any project examples like this?

If the distance between the edges of the tags is 3-5cm (and not from their centers), then you should be able to use small tags and a small reader like the ID-12 and achieve what you're asking.
