Hello all
My name is Pat I am a senior in college double majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science. For my senior project I want to experiment with the RFID cards that we use on campus. These are the cards that we use: http://www.hidcorp.com/documents/iclass_prox_card_ds_e n.pdf After buying and reading this book I am interested in getting the Phidget reader ( http://www.trossenrobotics.com/store/p/3606-Phidget-RFID-Rea der-USB-.aspx ) to start getting some real data that I can bring to my professors for approval of the project. I am just unsure if this is the correct reader that I should be looking into. My question is does anyone have any experience with these cards and this reader, and if not what worked? (just by the info sheets it should work but just wanted to make sure) Also I am slightly worried about the encryption they call iClass. I am a programmer so I figure I will be working extensively with the source codes if I cannot get it to work right away. Thanks in advance! Edited by sirflipzalot2 - 15 September 2008 at 9:37am |

Hi there,
You'll need an HID reader... they have a proprietary air interface (protocol) and don't like to share it with other reader manufacturers... so, generally you'll see an HID reader that only reads HID tags, and other readers that will read a collection of almost everything but HID tags. I have plenty of cranky comments about HID, but they do make first class commercial access control systems. I'd suggest you search this forum for posts with HID in them, however because phidget includes "hid" in the word, and this forum software's search function is kind of lame, it returns like 200 posts when you search for HID. Anyway, thank god Google is smarter than that. |
