hello, i have and electronic deadbolt that i got from smart home and i have it installed into the door already. it's fail secure and that's how i want it, it's the back door of my house. i have the rfidphidget and i have it working with the deadbolt but now i'm looking to further integrate it into the house. i would like to buy a antenna/reader that i can install into the outside wall and have the access control hardware inside the house embedded in the wall. i would like to get something similar to the phidget so i can program it but i haven't been able to find a reader that can be connected to usb (pref) or serial that can be securely mounted outside without extensive modifications. thanks |

If you don't mind using a 13.56MHz reader, the SkyeTek reader is great because you can use the built-in antenna, or you can mount an external antenna in the wall and keep the reader inside your home where it's fully accessible. It has a variety of output communications methods, including RS-232 serial and TTL serial. No USB, however you could easily use a USB to Serial adaptor. |

Ahhh, no. The 13.56MHz spectrum is absorbed by the body. You'll have to search around for a 125KHz EM4102 reader that accepts an external antenna. I think QKits sells one... www.qkits.com, but you'd have to test the kit with the external antenna you want to use and with a glass implant tag before you install this reader into your wall or get an implant put in. |
