help with my first hand on rfid

hi thr,
         wel am kindof new to these stuff u ppl are talkin abt, bt then nw for my year project i'v taken rfid field cz i think its cool.
tried skimmimg thru sites bt  i cudnt grasp any clear ideas thr.
 is thr anyone out thr who cud help me or give me a start vth the basics i need to knw, lik the hardware requirements, the architectr so tht i cn build a rfid scanner from the scratch which cud be interfaced vth a computer.
